VectorWorks Serial Numbers

Each license of Vectorworks has at least one serial number. There are currently 4 types of serial numbers. A, B, C and E series.

C Series:

(C4XUSS-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-EVAL00)

  • Series C requires: One Red dongle (A.K.A NetHASP) , one Serial number and one Server (and of course a number of clients).
  • The dongle is attached to the server. In order for the dongle to function, it needs a "dongle driver" and a "License manager" to be installed (in that order). Both are available on our DVDs or can be downloaded at www.aladdin.com.
  • Server is a computer (any platform) which serves the purpose of managing VectorWorks licenses. So, it DOES NOT need to be a commercial Server as what the administrators/ IT people refer to. It can simply be any computer.
  • As mentioned earlier, everything related to dongles will be installed on this computer and it is not recommended to run VectorWorks on it.
  • The DVD disk image or the actual DVDs have a folder named "Network Licensing Software". This folder contains the installers for both Dongle Driver and License Manager (LM).

Step by Step installation guide:

1. Log on to the server as an administrator and make sure the Dongle is not attached.
2. Install Dongle Driver then the License manager and restart the system.
3. Attach the dongle to a USB driver on the server - the dongle should light up.
4. Install VectorWorks and enter the serial number.

NetHASP.ini File

If your client machines are on the same subnet as the server, you don't need the .INI file (and VW should start automatically). What does this mean? On a network configuration every computer has an IP address. The normal form is A.B.X.C such as 192.168.1.51 - the number of interest to us is the first thee ("A.B.X") which is equal to "192.168.1" in this example.

(another example of same subnet: Server IP address is 192.168.1.10 and clients are 192.168.1.22 & 192.168.1.23 & etc)

Now, if these numbers are the same for both the server and the client machines, then we don't need the .INI file and we are on the same sub-net. Otherwise we need the .INI file. In some cases even if the client and server are on the same subnet the .ini file is needed to launch Vectorworks.

If you do need the .INI file you must enter the server's IP address in it and copy this file to each client who will be running VectorWorks. The location of this file on Windows OS is the applications folder of VectorWorks.

For Mac, it's bit harder, you need admin privileges to place the .INI file inside the ~/etc/ folder (Command + Shift + G).
