Compressing, Zipping and Archiving Files

Zipping Vectorworks file on Macs and Windows is a good way of both reducing file size before transfer or storage, and protecting the file during transit. On average a user can expect a Vectorworks file to reduce in size 20% to 40%, however in some cases Vectorworks files can be reduced by up to 90% of their original size.

Windows XP:

Right click on the icon of the file you wish to compress and choose Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

Right click on the icon of the file you wish to compress and choose Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder.

OSX 10.5 and 10.6:

Right click (or Control-Click) on a Vectorworks file icon and choose Compress.

Additionally, for both Mac and Windows users, placing multiple files inside of a folder, then compressing that folder will allow you to send large numbers of files as only 1 zip file.
